In Foundation Stage and KS1 phonics is taught daily as a systematic approach programme. Children are taught in differentiated groups using Read,Write Inc. P. In KS2 RWI continues for those children who have not reached the expected standard.

At Springwood Heath we follow the ‘Read,Write Inc Programme on a daily basis using termly assessments.  The children are challenged with the correct  levelled books which are shared in school aswell as at home.

It aims is to build children’s speaking and listening skills in their own right as well as to prepare children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. It sets out a detailed and systematic programme for teaching phonic skills for children starting from Nursery age, with the aim of them becoming fluent readers by age seven – end of KS1.
