We aim to offer each child a broad and balanced curriculum which will help them to make the appropriate progress and development, and to strive for high standards of achievement.

The curriculum is the way that your child  learns in school – it exists for all children.  It includes what goes on in the classroom and those activities that take place at playtime and during after school activities.

Foundation Stage

All children in the FS1 (nursery) and FS2 (reception) follow a curriculum known as the ‘ Early Years Foundation Stage’  (EYFS) – a more detailed leaflet is available from the school reception. The curriculum is based on four principles;

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

There is a very strong emphasis on learning through play. For some part of each day all children have access to both planned and self-initiated activities. This is  organised to enable both FS1 and FS2 children to mix freely together, choosing activities which interest them.

At other times children will be engaged in structured activities, delivered by staff, but again with the emphasis on play. The balance between free choice of activities and teacher focused activities will change during the year according to the development of the child.

When children are ready to move on from EYFS, usually during Y1, they follow the principles of the National Curriculum
